WHO ARE THE PEOPLE IN YO MAMA’S HOUSE?
WE ARE FICTIVE KIN!
Becoming a member of YO MAMA’s HOUSE is so much more than a membership or partnership. YO MAMA recognize the strength in connectivity, honoring our Mothers Cultures, Family lineages, and Ancestors by building upon their wisdom.
YO MAMA and YO MAMA’S HOUSE COOPERATIVE envisions her members and partnerships as fictive relationships. Fictive relationships are those relationships between people who share strong affection and affinity for another arising out of kinship, personal and social ties and maternal love that is not based on biology or marriage. This goes beyond blood ties.
YO MAMA is rooted in relationships. In arts based supportive gatherings and art making experiential spaces, Mothers build strong bonds that ends isolation, mistrust between women, and generations gaps. Mothers create the artistic languages and tools for us speak on the universal work of women and be at the tables of every conversation that impacts our well being and the lives of our children, families and communities.
Individuals and organizations that partner with YO MAMA are currently and successfully doing the social justice and redemptive work necessary and essential to empower mothers. All YO MAMA activities and events are designed to connect women, as mothers, across age, ethnicity, gender, class, and cultures through art making and womanist/feminist practices that create allyships.
YO MAMA will begin its fundraising and membership drive in the Spring 2019.
